About This workshop
This intensive one-day workshop delves into the unique challenges of deploying and maintaining Internet of Things (IoT) sensor networks in Alaska's harsh Arctic conditions. Participants will gain practical experience in selecting durable hardware, programming microcontrollers for data acquisition, and establishing reliable long-range communication protocols suitable for remote areas. Focus will be placed on applications like permafrost monitoring, environmental data collection, and wildlife tracking, utilizing low-power wide-area network (LPWAN) technologies. Attendees will build their own prototype sensor node, learn field deployment best practices, and analyze collected data, equipping them with essential skills for real-world Arctic research and conservation efforts.
