About This workshop
This hands-on workshop, set in the tech-forward city of Morgantown, will guide participants through the process of creating low-cost, open-source IoT sensor nodes. Attendees will learn to solder components, program microcontrollers like ESP32s, and integrate various environmental sensors for data collection, focusing on parameters relevant to wildlife and water quality monitoring. We'll cover everything from basic electronics and sensor calibration to secure data transmission via LoRaWAN or cellular networks, emphasizing practical deployment strategies for rugged outdoor conditions typical of West Virginia's terrain. Participants will leave with their own functional sensor prototype, ready to contribute to real-world conservation efforts and a deeper understanding of sustainable tech applications.
